TorreviejaTorrevieja is a seaside city and municipality located on the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante (about 50 km south west of Alicante). You can reach Torrevieja via the road N 332. Torrevieja has a population of 124,000, one of the great issues is that many foreign visitors do not register on the official census, and many Spaniards with second homes are obliged to register in the town they are habitually resident. In recent years the local economy has hugely expanded due to the tourist industry. This includes both a strong contingent of Germans, British and Scandinavians, many of whom live there all the year round, and Spanish tourists who have a holiday home in the city. Further in the south of Torrevieja you will find more and more "spanish-only" speaking people, while the area of Torrevieja and upwards is usually more bilingual (spanish and valencian).  
Torrevieja AttractionsTorrevieja is famous for its salt production, (producing annually more than half a million tons). Huge salt lakes surround the road down from Alicante, so if you visit the area of Torrevieja spend some time on your way to it. Just off the coast of Torrevieja on the southern Costa Blanca there is a variety of wreck and reef diving in a region already popular with Spanish divers. Most of the scuba diving is situated in La Manga and Cabo de Palos. Here there are minimum temperatures of 13ºC in winter and over 29ºC in the summer with an average visibility of 15 to 25 meters. One of the most interesting wrecks in this area is the Naranjito. The Naranjito was a 50 metre freighter which sank carrying its freight of oranges (hence its name), but is only recommended for advanced divers.  
Other information of TorreviejaTorrevieja is a typical Spanish town which not only has some good beaches, it also has an excellent street market every Friday morning and some brilliant shops, bars and restaurants.
