Tabarca island is located off the Cabo de Santa Pola at a distance of 11 nautical miles from Alicante city. It is is the largest inhabited island in the Valencian Community. The beaches, port and promenade is the main symbol of Alicante and Costa Blanca.
Tabarca island is about 1750 meters long, with a maximum breadth of 300 meters and absolutely flat. This island is unique as it is the only inhabited island in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. The main economical activity of Tabarca island is tourism, especially during the summer season, the island is very, very popular (it will register up to about 3,000 daily visits). Its climate has an average temperature of 17° C. The main beach on the island is Levante Beach, it is about 250meters long. Located nearby is the village, which has been declared a Protected Historic-Artistic monument in 1964. There are a few facilities on the island, include access for the disabled (the terrain in some places quite difficult), toilets, foot showers, a tourist information point during the summer season and a Civil Defence post. You can also find best prepared fish dishes on the island. The waters surrounding the Tabarca island have been officially declared a Mediterranean marine nature reserve, and it is this that draws the scuba divers and snorkellers who swim amongst the vast numbers of fish and marine life that surround this little island.
