Altea Altea is a town located in the province of Alicante Spain, 11 km north of Benidorm on the section of Costa Blanca and just south of Calpe. Altea Spain is a calm and tranquil fishing village. You can reach Altea via the N332 or the main motorway AP7 (Exit 64). Altea has a beautiful parish church, easily identifiable by its picturesque blue and white domes, tiled with glazed ceramics. It has become one of the most unique visual landmarks on the Costa Blanca. Other sights include medieval cobbled streets, picture book old quarter and the delights of its palm-fringed seafront esplanade. These cobbled streets, filled with wrought iron balconies overflowing with flowers, urge you to explore. Wander by the stylish shops selling handmade pottery, jewellery and other artifacts and you can see the old walled town has a unique charm. ![]()
A nice way of knowing Altea is to leave the car and take a walk for its old town and little villages, especially La Nucia to the north of Altea with its Sunday market is worth a nice day trip. Altea Hill Just a few kilometers away from the village you will find Sierra de Bernia which reaches up to 1130 mt high. From that area you will have a spectacular view on the Altea area and the coastline. In this area you will find some Altea golf clubs too. If you are looking for Altea property, many construction companies and Altea real estate firms have come up with developing areas around the hills of Altea. You would expect Altea to have a harbour, being located beside the sea as it is, but in fact Altea has 2 harbours, the old fishing harbour and a somewhat newer Sports harbour located on the Calpe side of the town. ![]()
Because there are only a few hotels in Altea, it has kept clear of the mass tourism on the Costa Blanca. During the summer month every night on the small cozy plaza in the old centre there is a original handicraft market. All around the plaza are different bars and restaurants, you can enjoy the local seafood and rice dishes as well as some excellent international cuisine. Altea weather is generally sunny and warm with infrequent rainfall, hot summers and mild winters. Finally don't miss the opportunity of a photograph of the views. From the church square you can enjoy the vista of the sweeping bay, the mountains and a distant Benidorm with its high rise buildings.
